Sugar Senshi Sparkle - Sailor Buttercream Sparkle

Way back in September 2012 I submitted a senshi for *Cheddar99043's Sugar Senshi Sparkle group. But I didn't get around to drawing her until now. Here she is...Sailor Buttercream Sparkle!

What is buttercream? It's a really sweet cake icing. I thought of it for this because I have worked a lot in the bakery at the grocery store I work at. Often times you see it in white on cakes, but chocolate buttercream also exists.

A little bit about my senshi (might make a proper profile later):

Sailor Buttercream Sparkle is a senshi from the magical land Gâteau (cake). For some reason (to be determined), she finds she has to fight against evil. She does this using her magical pastry bag, which is filled with magic power. On her waist she carries a small bag with different icing tips for the pastry bag; different tips have different abilities. A star tip, for instance, might send out bursts of stars and energy, while a leaf tip would have grass powers.

Buttercream Sparkle's colors are white and pink. White because, as I said, you often see buttercream in white, and pink because I saw some pictures of pink buttercream (though that may have actually been fondant...not sure).

The bunny next to her is her mascot, Crème. I was thinking Buttercream Sparkle should have a mascot, and the idea of a bunny came to mind. It sounds like a cute mascot for her! I used a regular "draw a cartoon bunny" tutorial as a guide to draw Crème, so Crème doesn't look particularly manga-like. I compensated by giving Crème manga-style eyes.

I drew this with pencil and colored it with colored pencil. Then I outlined the outside with black marker to make it stand out. After I did the marker outline, I thought it looked bad, but after scanning it I found it looked ok.

I based the outfit off a ball gown prom dress. I felt a ball gown fit with the look I wanted for this character. The hair and the ribbons on the gloves and legs are inspired by the show Winx Club and its recently-revealed Sirenix transformation. The hair in particular is based off of Sirenix Aisha.

To add the necessary "sparkle" to this, I added a light glitter effect to the bodice and skirt of Buttercream Sparkle's outfit, using this tutorial as a guide.
